Before the holidays kicked off, Ducky and the gang went on a family vacation to the Lake District in Northern England. They went on several boat rides, hiked lots of trails, and even rode some old fashioned choo-choo trains. Each had their own favorite moment.
Ducky’s favorite part was when we got caught in a “lamb jam” (traffic jam caused by grazing sheep), when driving on old country roads. They got several good laughs as humans tried to shoo the sheep off the road.
Pembleton’s favorite part was hiking around Lake Derwentwater. He cataloged different plants and animals he spotted along the hike in his science journal.
Ted’s favorite part was the bird show at Muncaster Castle. He liked seeing the hawks soaring in the sky and swooping over the crowd.
Blizzard’s favorite part was eating lots and lots of sticky toffee pudding! It is his favorite dessert in all of England, especially when topped with ice cream.

Hello from the Lake District!
Science is so cool!
Ducky and Pembleton like to keep up-to-date on all the cool science news, especially Pembleton (who was a Mad Scientist for Halloween this year). Here are some of the latest Robotic News that has Ducky and the gang super excited!
NPR News: The Robotic Baby Penguin That Spies For Scientists http://n.pr/1vWxMTN
NASA: Rosetta International Mission to a Comet, In Search of our Origins http://rosetta.jpl.nasa.gov/
Ted and Blizzard asked Pembleton: “What is a Robot? ” Pembleton got so excited he took them to his laboratory to explain.
“Robots come in all shapes and sizes. They have a computer for a brain, and sensors and moving parts that help them complete specific tasks. Robots are used to make cars, computers, to help rescue people or animals from disasters, and clean around the house.” Pembleton explained to the Lil’ Guys.
“Wow, they can clean up around the house?!?” said Ted super excited.
“Did you know robots can also be your friend, and play games with you?” Pembleton added.
“We need one,” Blizzard and Ted said at the same time while they jumped up and down.
Until Next Time, Pembleton wants you to KEEP BEING CURIOUS!
Pembleton asks, “What science subject would you like me to explain next?” Please leave in the comment section…

Pembleton woke everyone up early this morning and said, “We’re going on a hike.” Pembleton had already packed their backpacks with sandwiches, water, a map, and a compass. They spent the whole day going up hills, going down hills, over fields, and under thick forests. What a fun way to spend the day!
Today, Ducky and the gang had a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Pizza (TMNT) Party. Wow! It was awesome! There was pizza and they dressed up like their favorite Ninja Turtles. Ducky originally wanted to have the party in the sewers, but luckily, Pembleton talked him out of it.
“Ladies and Gentlemen! I give you the Grubby Lil’ Paws!”
That’s what the announcer said when he introduced Ducky’s new band at a local music festival. Ducky is the singer, Banjo Bear plucks the banjo, Rusty the raccoon plays the jugs, Franky the elephant toots the harmonica, and Stink the skunk is always up for a DRUM SOLO! The performance went so well, they had to play an encore of “Empty Cookie Jar Blues”.

Pineapples
Pineapple is one of Pembleton’s (and Ducky’s) favorite fruits. Pineapples are juicy and delicious, but recently when Pembleton was eating some pineapple he wondered about where they came from. With a little research he discovered many interesting things. For example, pineapples are originally from the American tropics, however they are now grown in Asia and Africa. Also, pineapples are a great source of Vitamin C, but they also contain chemicals that make it difficult to use them in Jello.
KEEP BEING CURIOUS!
This morning, Ducky and the gang remembered the men and women who served in the US armed forces by visiting a Memorial Day parade.
After the parade, they went to a park. Ducky and the Lil’ Guys threw a football back and forth, while Pembleton roasted some corn on the cob. After lunch, Pembleton taught everyone how to do somersaults on the grass. It was a good day!
The gang got off at the last stop – a small Tibetan monastery on a high mountain peak. Pembleton knew some of the animals there and figured it was a good place to start investigating. But as the train pulled away, reality set in, and amidst all the snow and ice, Ducky had a meltdown.
“I’M SO C-C-COLD!” Ducky blubbered.
“Don’t worry Ducky, we will get you thawed out once we get inside,” Pembleton replied as he offered Ducky the last cookie.
“I hope your friends have some warm clothes for us, Ted and I can’t handle this cold weather as well as you and Blizzard!” Ducky said between sniffles.
“Let’s get inside. Harry the snow hare is waiting for us. He should have some gear for us.” Pembleton said, as they headed toward the monastery.
To Be Continued…
Over the weekend Ducky and the gang went to their first ever hockey game! They had so much fun watching the Zamboni circle the rink, they forgot that there was even a game. Then the McGill Redmen took to the ice against the Guelph Gryphons. The game was a nail biter as the puck went back and forth, back and forth. But in the end, the Redmen prevailed 3-2, and Ducky got to keep the winning puck. After the Zamboni cleared the ice, Ducky snuck on to the ice to practice. He hopes to show the guys how good he is, maybe they will even let him join the team.
Every night before going to bed, the Lambs check in on the new born panda at the National Zoo. They like to see what the little guy is up to and hear about the latest updates on his development. But today something horrible and unexpected happened. THE PANDA CAM WAS SHUTDOWN!
So the Lambs decided to protest. They made signs and headed over to the White House, and they’re not going anywhere until the camera is turned back on!
Mercury is the closest planet to the sun. It is called a terrestrial planet because it is mostly made of rock. Since the planet has almost no atmosphere it experiences extreme temperature fluctuations. One really cool things about Mercury is that the surface of the planet is covered in large and small craters from where thousands of meteors have struck the planet. Another strange thing about Mercury is that is year (the time it takes to travel around the sun) is shorter than its day (the time it takes for the planet to rotate around its axis).
Pembleton thinks Mercury is pretty cool! What do you think?
Easter is one of the gang’s favorite holidays. They get to dress up in their monkey suits, eat lots of candy, and search for Easter eggs! Sometimes the Easter Egg Hunt can get pretty competitive. This year was no different.
The humans took the gang to a nearby park for their Easter Egg Hunt. Blizzard and Ted decided to team up this year and boy were they glad they did. They found an egg under some leaves that was almost as big as they were! Pembleton and Ducky both spied a beautiful egg near a boulder, but Ducky was much closer and was able to grab it first. Pembleton wasn’t about to give up. He searched and he searched, and he found a nice big egg at the base of a tree.
Blizzard and Ted worked together to carefully roll their egg over to Ducky’s basket. But when Ducky picked up their egg, he accidentally dropped it and the egg crashed on to the ground and broke open. All three of them were upset, until they saw that inside their egg was filled with delicious candies!
This was definitely an Easter to remember.
Happy Easter!
