Ducky's Adventures

What is a Robot?

Ted and Blizzard asked Pembleton: “What is a Robot? ” Pembleton got so excited he took them to his laboratory to explain.

“Robots come in all shapes and sizes. They have a computer for a brain, and sensors and moving parts that help them complete specific tasks. Robots are used to make cars, computers, to help rescue people or animals from disasters, and clean around the house.” Pembleton explained to the Lil’ Guys.

“Wow, they can clean up around the house?!?” said Ted super excited.

“Did you know robots can also be your friend, and play games with you?” Pembleton added.

“We need one,” Blizzard and Ted said at the same time while they jumped up and down.

P.S. Congratulations to Germany for winning the World Cup. We tried to reach The Lambs for comment, but they were busy napping after a long night of celebrating.

“We made it! We made it!” Ducky shouted as we rolled into our hotel parking lot. The family finally made it to Disneyworld. Before we got to Orlando we had to drive through Alabama, cross the Florida state line and drive several hours to Orlando. Here are some pictures from the trip yesterday.

Stay tuned for more pictures from our road trip!

At school Amanda Panda invited Pembleton and Ducky to a fancy tea party at her house. She also told them to dress nice. Ducky and Pembleton had other plans, but didn’t know how to tell Amanda no.

On their way home Ducky and Pembleton were wondering what they should wear. Then Ducky remembered they had brand new suits at home. They went home and dropped off their book bags and lunch boxes. They quickly got dressed. As they were admiring themselves in the mirror, Ducky asked “How do I look?”

“Pretty spiffy,” Pembleton responded. “How do I look?”

“Awesome! Now lets go before we get in trouble. You know Amanda doesn’t like us to be late.” Ducky said as he grabbed his war hammer and was out the door.

When they got to the party, Amanda Panda and Penelope the Penguin, were setting up the tea party with tea and cookies on the table. Then with one look at the two boys, Amanda Panda began to fill with anger.

“What are you two wearing? I told you to dress nice! This is a fancy tea party!”

“What are you talking about?” Ducky asked. “We are wearing the fanciest suits we own.”

“Do you know how hard it is to get authentic Captain American and Thor costumes? These are collectables!” Pembleton replied.

Amanda Panda huffed and ate a cookie, while Penelope just smiled and said “I think you make a good Captain American, Pembleton. But Ducky, that wig is crazy.”

After enjoying her cookie Amanda Panda cooled off, but demanded Ducky not put his war hammer on the table.

“What do you think you are wearing?”

Pembleton's Lab 5: Snowflakes

Snowflakes are crystals made from water.

Today Ducky was jumping to catch early morning snowflakes in his mouth, when he asked Pembleton, “Why are snowflakes different from raindrops?”.

Pembleton said, “that is an interesting scientific question” and he asked the Lambs if they would retrieve some charts from his lab so that he could fully explain. Pembleton started, “Snowflakes and raindrops are both made of water”.

Ducky interrupted dancing with one wing in the air, “… but if they are both made of water, why do they look different?”.

“I’m getting to that! When the temperature is low, around 32 degrees Fahrenheit or 0 degrees Celcius, the water that would normally fall as raindrops turns into crystals. When these crystals grow, they form what we call snowflakes. During the 1920s, a scientist named ‘Snowflake Bentley’ took thousands of pictures of snowflakes showing the world that almost all snowflakes have different shapes.”

Ducky asked, “How do you know so much about snowflakes, Pembleton?”

“Snowflakes were my very first scientific interest. A large fluffy snowflake was the first thing I saw on the day that I hatched in the South Pole. Ever since then I have been studying these amazing little crystals.”

Until next time, Pembleton reminds you to KEEP BEING CURIOUS!

Earlier this week, Ducky ran into Christmas Koala while shopping for some new sweat bands. As always, Christmas Koala gave him an offer, Ducky couldn’t refuse.

Ducky got a gym membership at the Koala Klub for a great deal, and he is already seeing results! Ducky thinks Pembleton will be jealous.

Today is a special day at school. It is “Sharing Day” and everyone is bringing something to share with the class. Ted and Blizzard are bringing their favorite Pumpkin Snickerdoodle cookies to share. Pembleton is sharing his ant colony he has been raising and Ducky is sharing his blog with the class. He wants to share his stories and pictures from his adventures with the other students. He even brought a book of his stories to give to his teacher, Mrs. Cottontail, to add to their story time collection.

If you had a Sharing Day at school, what would you like to share with your fellow classmates?

Remember any day is a good day to share Ducky’s blog with family or friends. Who wouldn’t enjoy fun & exciting stories about little animals doing big things?

Pembleton the scientist explains the science of seed

How do seeds grow?

Earlier this week Ducky asked Pembleton, “How do seeds grow?” Pembleton got really excited and went to his study to retrieve lots of charts and figures of seeds and plants. Pointing to the seed, Pembleton started by explaining, “Seeds have something called DNA. DNA is a plan to build the entire plant from one tiny seed. The seed gathers energy and materials to grow from water, soil, and food stored inside the seed. Given water and soil with plenty of minerals, the seed will slowly add roots and leaves until it becomes a full grown plant.”

Ducky asked, “Can we grow an apple tree in the backyard?”

Pembleton said, “Yeah! Where will you get an apple seed?”

Ducky went to the kitchen and came back with two halves of a shiny red caramel apple. After eating the apple, Pembleton helped to extract the apple seeds. Then they went the backyard, made a small hole in the corner of the backyard, and planted the apple seed.

Two minutes later, Ducky asked why the plant wasn’t growing yet. Pembleton said, “Some plants, like apple trees, take years to grow.”

Ducky, Pembleton, and the Lambs did their civic duty today and voted. Did you?

Ducky wants to remind everyone, you can always write him in on the ballot.

Kids, remind your parents and any other adult you see today to VOTE!

Tomorrow is Election Day and Ducky wants to remind you to vote, for him.

Over the weekend, after seeing some political commercials, Ducky decided to run for President of All Humans. His background as self proclaimed Emperor of all Fowl, provides him with experience and know how on how to get the job done.

Plus, Pembleton is running as his Vice President. Pembleton has lots of leadership experience, and experience getting Ducky out of trouble.

Their platform:

  1. Snack time and Recess for all (naps optional).
  2. Macaroni and Cheese Fridays.
  3. Stricter rules on the ownership of exotic animals.
  4. All koala sales bears must register with the Better Business Bureau.
  5. As VP, Pembleton promises to help protect Antarctica.

While the gang has been having fun with Halloween this week, they have also been busy helping with Hurricane Sandy Relief. They have received several distress calls from animals who are stranded by flood waters or without food or shelter. Pembleton arranged for everyone to head up to the north east to help. The Lambs passed out blankets and snacks at an animal shelter, while Ducky and Pembleton searched for stranded animals, who needed help.

If you would like to also help, please visit the Red Cross website.

Last night the gang had a great time trick or treating. They got lots of candy, treats, and other sweet surprises. They also had the best costumes in the neighborhood.

When they got home, they were not quite ready for bed. After their baths, the humans popped them some popcorn, and put in the movie Hocus Pocus. Shortly after the movie started, Rumpelstiltskin came out of the kitchen with a PB&J and joined them. Only Rumpelstiltskin stayed awake for the whole movie. I guess they will have to watch it again next year.

One day at recess. Ducky and Ted were playing with soap bubbles. Ducky had a giant blue wand that he was using to make large bubbles. Ted was running around and popping the bubbles. Each new bubble got bigger and bigger, as Ducky perfected his bubble making.  One bubble was so big and so strong that when Ted went to pop it, he fell into the bubble and started to float away.

Ducky was horrified. He shouted for help. Pembleton saw what was happening and rushed to get his special plunger, he often uses to get cats out of trees. He aimed; he fired, and thankfully rescued Ted.

From now on, Ducky won’t blow bubbles, or at least not till he figures out a safer way when Ted is around.

Do you have any ideas on how to keep Ted safe, while blowing big bubbles?

Help Ducky, by leaving your ideas in the comment section below!

Ducky is a World Champion Heart-lifter. If it was an Olympic sport, Ducky would have the gold medal, no contest.

What is a Champion Heart-lifter, you might ask. Well a Champion Heart-lifter, is someone with the unique gift of bringing joy and happiness to people having a rough time in life. Ducky often visits children who are in the hospital, or the elderly in nursing homes to lift their hearts and make them laugh.  He always enjoys sharing his snacks with them.

Ducky is a Champion Heart-lifter, but you can be one too. Just be a friend to someone in need.

With Halloween only 12 days away, Ducky and the gang are already in the holiday spirit. Last night they decided to watch one of their favorite Halloween movies, Casper the Friendly Ghost.  Earlier that day, Ducky had to take a physical education test where he had to run, do jumping jacks, and somersaults. Ducky was quite exhausted and was heavy eyed during the movie. Before he knew it, he was snoozing.

In his dream, he saw four super cute ghosts in front of a large house. The first one who was quite round said “I’m hungry.” The second ghost, who was tall and thin, said “Tonight is a great night to use my telescope. Look at how full the moon is.” The two little ghosts just giggled and waved as they chased each other. When Ducky woke up, he wondered why the ghost from his dream were so familiar, but then he realized he was hungry. So he went and got a snack.

“I’m hungry, can ghosts eat?”

A Rocket is a vehicle that is shot up into the air using explosive gases. They can be simple or complex, depending on its use. While rockets can be used as a weapon, Pembleton prefers to study rockets that are used for space exploration.

Pembleton, Ducky and the rest of the gang are HUGE fans of NASA’s Johnson Space Center. They enjoy looking at the rocket ships and learning about space. However, Pembleton has to keep a close eye on Ducky, because he doesn’t like to just look- he likes to RIDE!

“Vacation at last.” Mrs. Lamb sighed as she woke up in a comfy bed in their German chateau. She got up, looked out of her window and saw the beautiful German country side. Knowing she was far, far away from Ducky, she couldn’t help but smile.

“Are you ready to party?” Mr. Lamb said as he put on his hat and grabbed his favorite apple juice stein.

The Lambs left their chateau in the country, hopped on a train, and were on their way to Oktoberfest! This was the one time of year, where they were Ducky-free and were able to do what they wanted to do. As they arrived, Mrs. Lamb wasted no time and got a pretzel from their favorite vendor. They rode several rides, played games, and ate plum cake.

As the day was winding down, the Lambs ran into an old friend, Mr. Hedgehog. “How are you, Mr. Hedgehog?” Mr. Lamb asked as he sipped on his apple juice.

“I’m having a blast! Plus, I got this awesome shirt for free. Did you know that Oktober is now called Ducktober?” Mr. Hedgehog replied.

Mrs. Lamb in shock dropped her pretzel and Mr. Lamb choked on his apple juice. “What did you say?” They asked together.

“They didn’t have enough time to make the signs this year, but next year, this will be Ductober fest and they are building a new hall in honor of an Emperor named Ducky. Do you know him?”

The Lambs, quickly said Auf Wiedersehen without answering his question. They needed to get back to the peace and quiet of their chateau. The only true place they could escape Ducky, or so they hoped.

Guten Tag!

Ducky and Pembleton were called on another rescue mission. This time two black bear cubs in the Adirondacks got themselves in a pickle. While playing, they stumbled on an abandoned camp site and smelled something wonderful – jelly donuts. The donuts were inside of a big green box made of metal. One cub helped boost his brother up to grab the donuts, but they were just out of reach. He tried and he tried, until he fell into the big green box. Then he realized he was stuck and began to panic. His brother ran to get their mother. When she arrived, she was not too happy. After looking around, she decided there was only one way to get him out. She had to call Ducky and Pembleton, the Animal Rescuers.

Ducky and Pembleton received the message from a carrier pigeon and were on their way. This time, they took Pembleton’s helicopter. Shortly after arriving they were able to get the little guy out, safely and Ducky gave them fresh black berry jelly donuts.

When they got home Ducky went straight to the kitchen for his afternoon snack. “Hey where is my PB & Fluff sandwich?” Ducky asked. “Lambs! Lambs! LAMBSSSSSSSSSS!” He shouted.

“It looks like the Lambs are gone.” Pembleton said as he read a note left by Mr. Lamb.

Tip #1 BE CUTE!

Ducky is a business man, I mean duck, at heart. He enjoys making money to buy snacks and toys. Over the years, he has come up with several business tips to help any business man or duck be successful.

Tip #1

BE CUTE. Moms, grandmas, grandpas and even dads can’t resist cuteness. If you use cuteness to sell your product, whether it be a macaroni necklace or popsicle box, they won’t be able to resist.  Try not to be TOO cute. It may backfire and they may guess you are on to something, like buying a ton of candy for a Lego Star Wars party in the living room planed for after the parents go to bed…

Ducky was rummaging through his old toy box, when he found his sheriff’s costume (badge and all). After making sure everything fit, he started his patrol. While making his rounds, he noticed something was different in the kitchen. He pushed a step stool to the counter, hopped up, and noticed there were NO COOKIES in the cookie jar!

Ducky was so upset. He was on a mission to find the culprit. First, he suspected the Lambs. But they only like ginger snaps and these were chocolate chip. Then he questioned Bear and Appa, but they had not been in the kitchen since dinner. Last, but not least, Ducky interrogated Pembleton.  While giving Pembleton the third degree, Pembleton picked a crumb off of Ducky’s chest feathers and gave him the stink eye. “Excuse me Ducky, but I believe you were the last to eat the cookies. These crumbs are evidence.”

“Umm..Umm… No I didn’t.” Ducky said slowly backing away.

“Yes, you did! The lil’ guys even saw you!” Pembleton accused. “I’m going to need your badge and cap guns, and you’re in time out until the parents get home.”

Ducky stomped his boots and fired off his pop guns into the air yelling “I’m not going to time out and you can’t make me.”

But with one super look, Ducky knew Pembleton was serious. Ducky sadly handed his badge and guns over to Pembleton and marched to time out, pouting along the way.

“You can’t make me go to time out!”

Late last night, Ducky was hungry. He was craving COOKIES. He walked in to the kitchen and saw that the cookie jar was too high. What was he going to do? He thought about it for a minute, and then decided to wake up the Lambs. The Lambs were grumpy from waking up, but Ducky said there was an emergency in the kitchen that needed their attention. Once they got to the kitchen Ducky pointed to the cookie jar. “It’s too high for me. I need a boost, “he told them. Even though the Lambs were angry, they gave him a boost and Ducky got his cookie.

The Lambs stood there in shock as Ducky hopped off the counter and walked out of the kitchen without sharing or saying thank you. As they went back to bed, Mrs. Lamb told Mr. Lamb, “We need a vacation, SOON.”

“Just a little higher.”

The other day, Ted and Blizzard were sitting out in the yard passing a ball back and forth. While they were playing Ted said to Blizzard, “My dad is the best bear in the world!” Blizzard thought about this for a second and then said, “that isn’t possible, because my dad is the best bear in the world!”

Who do you think is the best bear?

“My dad”…”No, My dad”

Every year around this time, the gang goes out to find their pumpkin friend named Jack. This weekend they found him! Ducky, Pembleton and the rest of the gang are so excited to have Jack back.

Jack has not been carved yet, but they all have their thinking caps on and are coming up with ideas. How do you think Jack should be carved?

(Leave your ideas in the comment box!)

Here are some pictures from last year. They went with the traditional look.

Happy DUCKTOBER!
